Description
The role of the brig (or brick) was essential to the Greek naval war effort of 1821-1829. Its main characteristics were it's maneuverability and speed even with a moderate wind, due to the height of its masts & sails, and were to be proven crucial in naval battles time and time again.
The Greeks had already improved it's design and rigging in order to face and escape from the high-speed pirate ships but also from the English warships, when during the Napoleonic Wars they would defy the British naval blockades and supply French ports, mainly Marseille, with grain and wheat.
Artwork #12 from the collection of miniatures "The evolution of the Greek sailing vessels from the 16th to the 19th century".
