Artist's Description

For some of us nothing captures the imagination like the image of a sailing ship in full sail.
I believe its symbolism is felt by far more than maritime enthusiasts, since it perfectly illustrates the mariners' traditional toast or blessing for ""Fair winds and following seas" - equally suitable and appropriate for any and all of life's journeys, nautical or not.

Barques (also barc, or bark) were the workhorse of the golden age of sail in the mid-19th century as they attained passages that nearly matched full-rigged ships, but could operate with smaller crews.
Their Greek counterparts, Myodromon (or gavara) beside their commercial use where also used as warships during the 1821 war for independence.

Please Note: The fine-art-america watermark will not appear on your print or any other product.

Since then he engaged exclusively in drawing his sailing ship portraits, using a unique mixed technique of freehand...
